SXSW is coming so quick, guys. RSVPs starting to hit my inbox like WOAH.

First thing is first.
FADER Fort. It's THE SPOT every single year and with free booze, amazing line ups, and the best site set up EVER [hello usable outlets to recharge your phone]. We all have stories to remember or that we forgot, but whether it's seeing Common joined on stage with Erykah Badu dropping THE LIGHT, or James Blake causing the crowd to silence itself, we've all had our OH SHIT moments up inside that thing.
This is why I'm super excited to go at it again. So no Levis or Fiat this year, but regardless the production team of Lacy Maxwell is on it again, and will guarantee times of your life. They've brought it every year regardless of major sponsor names, liquor/booze provided, and I know this year will be no different.

What I didn't know is that they do so much more. Major event's in LA, New York, and Austin go down thanks to them, so check out their site to keep up with that good good.

Now RSVPing for parties has pretty much become the new wristbands. So don't waste your money
[if you want, go here]. I would suggest wasting time at work going through all the RSVPs. But some feel like they never hear about the good parties. So how can you find the best of the best for parties??

The amahhh-zing people over at our favorite sxsw spreadsheet is taking a bigger step to helping you out. For a very small price of $5 you can have access to their site with links/emails to all the raging parties, brah! Follow them on the twitter for updates, here. I will actually have a couple of access spots to give away so STAY TUNED GUYS!

Now, if you are super lazy and have plenty of cash to throw around, SUPPORT ME. :)
Or when it comes to sxsw, you can pay someone to rsvp you to all the parties. I would do this but a] not really into paying someone for something I can do myself and b] if i did go this route, what the fuck would I be doing at work all day??? #amiright

So if you would rather go this route, your best bet would be SXUnlocked. $40 bucks get you on all the lists AND they have an app to go with it. So you can have all of that party info on your phone during the week and not have to worry about printing out things or making a party spreadsheet. Easy access might be the downfall of the world, BUT IT FEELS SO GOOD.

Now that you have that out of the way, start listening to bands that will be in our lovely city.

I recently came across a site that has stations based on the bands playing in your own city. It's actually a great idea and lets me know what bands are playing when, near me. All in all, great concept. And because sxsw is exactly that, they've created stations based on those acts. You can check it all out at DeliRadio and if you peek to the right of the site, they have sxsw by day playlist and sxsw by night.
So go check it out and give a listen to bands you've never heard of.
That's the best part of sx, falling in love with a band you've never really listened to. Its glorious.

I'm back in Austin, leaving a small piece of me in Chicago. My great grandmother turned 90 y'all. That means you are all stuck with me for a VERY LONG TIME! #yourewelcome

The snow was beautiful until my face landed in it [thanks justin]. My body is not used to that cold, so needless to say I proceeded to catch a cold.

Caught a cold, broke my lip ring, lost my pinky ring, and vowed never again to eat at white castle.

NEVER AGAIN!

The chaps [goddammit, i've been watching Downton Abbey] I will be talking about are plenty used to the cold, being from Minneapolis.

Doomtree is headed out on their tour and being legit, they released the newest video from their newest No Kings album.

I want to run around just screaming that word. I also want to be Har Mar Superstar.

Alright homies, we have a very special residency to announce – on the first three Wednesdays of February, The Mohawk (inside) will be home to bonafide dance party mayhem courtesy of the all-star team that is Marijuana Deathsquads, along with frequent collaborator, the irrepressible Har Mar Superstar. And on the final Friday of the month, they are flying in a special guest headliner Polica for a blockbuster outside show. I'm not sure if you have listened to any of those acts, but they are great. I caught MDS at the Ganygs/Doomtree showcase during SXSW, so good. Har Mar is Har Mar [nuff said] and Polica has been making waves since the release of Give You The Ghost and The Doomtree Blowout they performed at.

Today they are having the funeral services for Amy Winehouse.
This past weekend I went through the emotions of asking myself why I cared so much.
Tragic as it is, talented as she was, this was an issue she had the means to control.
Addiction is something I have been around and have yet to see someone lose that battle. But it's a very fine line, and my heart goes out to those who end up in the same light as Amy.

On talent alone, her music effected tons of people. Regardless what anyone thinks, she co wrote majority of her music. She started playing guitar and writing songs at age 13. At 13, I'm pretty sure I was pretending to be an ice skater [in my roller blades] and making up routines to Mariah Carey's Hero in the middle of my neighborhood. I can see the musical connection but I also know majority of people felt like they knew her from her media attention alone. Sadly people drew into that and payed more attention to it then to her music these past couple years.

I really would rather not spend a lot of time on this subject as her life was still a mystery to me, even with the headlines. I don't know about what demons haunted her. Nor the intricacies of her family/love life. All I know is that her voice was inspiring and her passing on this early is a sad.
Same as anyone who loses their life at age 27, regardless of musical status/ability.

On a selfish note, I want to say that her 3rd album was finished, but due to her health issues, they pushed back the release. I'm 98% positive they will try to bank on this tragedy as majors see the $$, but at least we'll get to hear her voice one last time.

Needless to say, I'm longing for the weather I had the week I was in Minneapolis for Soundset 2011.
Homegirl was sporting a HOODIE!!!

Plus, I was greeted by Bill Murray on the daily.

Thanks again to Alice and Brian for putting us up for a week. You guys are amazing. :)

Now, onto Soundset. A bit wet and once again out of reach for tmobile service.

The festival was amazing and I enjoyed the experience, especially with London by my side.

We made it on site to catch Dialated Peoples

Kanye needs to go back to producing only and keep the rapping to the PROFESSIONALS. kthx.

Walked around for a bit until Doomtree came on [THE MAIN STAGE, BTW] and realized MPLS has as much pride as Austin does. I love it.

Then my favorite set of the entire day, Edan ft Paten Locke.
Hailing from Maryland, he's been around since the late 90s and has walked around highly underrated by most. His set was awesome. Seeing him behind the decks, to manning the mic, to using a distortion pedal THEN going acoustic with a bob dylan-esque wig and a kazoo. Hands down, favorite set.

Then it was big boi time. Set was a lot like the one he did in Austin at East Side Drive In.
Still great.

Then Atmosphere...of course

I actually like this verison for god's bathroom floor. SEXYGROWNTYPE

We then hit up the after party for Mike Relm, but after being shut down for food by a closed Jimmy Johns, we book it back to get some rest.

Next day, spent it at the Mall of America [god help me] and then out in some sunshine at a BBQ drinking drinks and playing bags [or cornhole, but i refuse to call it that].
It was great and I enjoyed every second of it.

I was lucky enough to be a person in the sold out crowd for Atmosphere's The Family Sign tour.

If you know me, you know what a ridiculous fan girl I am of the Rhymesayers Label, Atmosphere definitely leading that pack for me.

So having the opportunity to see the latest album live in the cooler weather of Austin with a very pregnant friend with the same admiration for the hip hop crew was another one for the books.

This grown ass man has replicated my sense of adult hood on his own journey.
Since the days of angst reaching into the days of pure adulthood honesty, Slug has brought his fans in through his amazing ability to tell a story.

I have so much admiration for Slug, Ant, Eric, Nate, and everyone that showed up that night. [DJ Abilities, Grieves and Budo, Blueprint]
By the way, Blueprints new live set was fucking sick and needs to be seen by EVERYONE. I was too taken a back to take pics/video. But it was really great.

Taking in the altering of life [we call age, wisdom, and experiences] and embracing the new changes have been the road Sean and Ant have been building for over a decade.
With every house on the street being a familiar neighbor to so many of their fans.

I know it must be hard for the younger fans who are hitting their adolescent angst stage while artist are hitting their new lives in great stride, but keep following the path. There will come a time where Trying to Find a Balance, Sunshine, and She's Enough will find a place inside oneself.

I'm ridiculously excited to hear this album and look forward to the Family Sign Tour that will be hitting the US ASAP!

SXSWRAAAAAAP UP 2011 Edition

This is how I felt knowing I survived SXSW2011.

I was MIA all last week because I wanted to be sure my pulse was real and not just an after affect from the Monster NITROUS energy drink I inhaled during sx.
Turns out, the heartbeat is legit and I'm still here. yaaaaay.

And here's how it went. **Needless to say I'm semi retarded, but I deleted most of my videos from my camera, except for the last day. So I implemented other videos in their place. fuck my life. :) **

My SXSW started early, as it has since I was introduced the Interactive week.

Friday was Ganygs and Local Natives at Stubbs

Best part was singing at the top of my lungs [sorry to the people in front of me] with about 15 of my friends. LOVE BOTH OF THESE BANDS!!

Saturday:
I hit up DJ Premier at the MOG party at Mohawk. Then the Lamebook party at Red7
No photographic evidence due to alcohol content of my BODY. :D

Sunday:
Started at Shangri La for their Mardi Gras Celebrations with an awesomely small but well equipped brass band.

Then ran over to Moonshine where Theophilus London was spinning, then Rye Rye performed.

Stopped by Pure Volume for the libations and lighting spectacles

Then cap off the night at Scoot Inn for Cut Chemist!

Perfect sunday, minus the large amounts of alcohol digested again. [I did not start this sx off smart, at all.]

Monday/Tuesday: Due to my dumbass drinking so much, I sat these two days out.

Wednesday
Windish Party at Mohawk: I was excited about this as I was able to catch [Not Mount Kimbie due to a no show], Jaime Woon, Twin Shawdows, Givers, Cloud Nothings, Royal Bangs, and Foster the People.

Turns out recording live music on my phone sucks as well.

Then head over to wait in line for 3 hours to get to experience the HOUR long show for MTVu Woodies.

While this was a cool experience, NEVER AGAIN! I'm definitely too old for that shit.

I then took my painfully footed ass home. Seriously, the pain from standing was gut wrenching.

Thursday
I awake to no feeling in my feet, except the LARGE AMOUNT OF PAIN. But I suck it up, because it was Sailor Jerry time.
Took a stroll around town doing what I do with Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum. [it's one of those, you had to be there things.]

Then I run over to Dub Academy for an amazing set from Jaime XX and Deadboy

I'm super happy I was able to catch these two. They were definitely on my list of MUST SEES for this year.
And luckily Deadboy did a fucking Dance Hall set. /swoon

I ended the night at Mohawk for Gayngs Affilyated Showcase. FANTASTIC
I was able to catch Marijuana Deathsquad, Solid Gold, Megafaun, Doomtree, and Gayngs

Friday:
I sleep in then head over to Scoot Inn for Converse Thrasher party.
Um hello Das Racists and Odd Future.

This is not my footage, as I was outside of the crazy crowd. But Odd Future killed it here. With Tyler breaking some kids nose within the first couple songs, then him and Hodgy scaling the stacks and then ROOF at Scoot. Poor Rufus probably had a heartattack. Then calmed down to realize this was their best performance all week, at his venue.

These kids push limits and ones morality threshold for some beats and shenanigans rightfully coming from a group their age. While one can step outside the madness screaming 'wolfgang' and can perceive this fan base as ICPish/cultish/nowhereibelong crowd. I can see the talent underneath the 'i don't give a fuck' attitude. It just might take a while for them to hone down to it due to the unforgiving hype their year will be seeing.
But fuck it, what 19 yr old wouldn't want their lives right now?

I can easily say that this was my favorite most intense performance I saw from this group [I caught them multiple times]. BIG show, for sure.

I went home to rest and dust of the dirt, then I headed back out to Shangri La for a surprise performance from Spank Rock [yea bitches!!]

Saturday:
TECHNICALLY the last big day for SXSW. Rumors and large performances were hitting the twitterbox and to be honest, Diddy and Kanye left me unimpressed. But the one for RedBull, holy shit, WANT/NEED/MUST HAVE.

But my day started calmly as I entered the Fader Fort by Fiat for the first time this year. It was nice. Shade, top shelf liquor [no soco, but kettleone, BULLIET, and don julio bizzz] Plus some decent toy area to waste time.
Big ups to the guy with the flat top though. He was awesome.

I caught Jaime XX's set again, but this time FINALLY heard him drop his Adele's Rolling In The Deep mix.

Then caught James Blake

Very mellow and lovely, but in the crowd that got to be at Fader, my ass was ready to leave after the first song. Hilariously, I'm not into big crowds. haha.

I head on over to the Knuckle Rumbler Lounge for two of my favorites!! P.O.S. and Astronautalis.
They were doing their side project, Four Fists, for the 2nd time EVER! It was amazing.

I then ran over to Mess With Texas for Big Freedia and OFWFKTA

The sound was off for Odd Future, so I skipped out early and headed to RedBulls Threestyle party where I caught

Then went to shang to enjoy the LOCALs ONLY Bloody Marys, then headed to Sunday Swagger.
Caught 12th Planet crowd surfing as well as Skrillex who looked so frightened of the youngin dubstep crowd.

I then head home to sleep the entire week off, then slapped myself because I missed it all go down. Wiz and others were 'added to the bill' aka got on stage and did their thing at the Red7 after party.
Holy shit. KR, ScoreMore, and Proper did it big, and kept people out on the the day of rest.
Mighty feat, y'all!!!

Thus ends another SXSW, another year till this crowd hits these streets again
