Thankfully Full

This is how I'm feeling right about now.
Even though I'm currently in Lubbock, Tx, I am full of multiple turkey dinners and in pain from the amount of laughter that occurred.
Not gonna lie, but my family is kinda amazing.

So I'm trying to sneak in a little post about an event saturday that you should all go to.

Quiet Company will play a special Twitter themed show at ND at 501 Studios www.ndvenue.com on Sat, Nov 27th. Doors at 8pm, Show at 9pm. ALL AGES.
We will have a live Twitter feed projected on the ND’s giant movie screen wall and we want you to come out and join in the party. Our fans are incredibly active on Twitter and we can’t wait to give you guys a voice and be a part of our sh...ow that night.

We have invited some great bands to join us that night
Love at 20
Moving Castles
Guns of Navarone

Speaking of Love at 20, Mike and the gang will be coming with their new EP for the fans to hear. And in similar style make sure to keep an eye on their bandcamp page because he will be releasing the EP there as well.

I've heard the EP and I love it of course, and I have an exclusive track to give to you.

Love at 20: Never by sailorlegs

So gear up and get ready to rock out.

Country Livin is Gone

[thanks malu for the gif]

It's getting so close to my 4 day weekend, and I'm doing this dance. Right now. Inside my head. [I'm in a dress, I'm a lady].

But I'm sticking to the hip hop front. After finishing up Kanye's album, I went straight back to the Lady Killer himself.
Mr CeeLo Green. This album is so great, versatile, and shows CeeLos talent as an MC/singer/writer/producer.

Thinking of CeeLo's past which included life member of Goodie Mob, his now 3 solo albums, Gnarls Barley with Danger Mouse, he's also done a couple songs with MY FAVORITE vocalist, Esthero.

via her twitter
She is the most underrated artist of our time, and it frustrates the poop out of me.

Anyway, their first collab is when Goodie Mob sampled her Country Livin song off her debut album back in 1998.

The he jumped in on her latest album Wikkid Little Girls on the single Gone.

She is beyond amazing and I know her ass has been inside that studio and I can't wait to hear what comes out of that.

Until then. Settle with what I give you!!

Wikkid Little Girls

Many Times ft Miguel....this is for those fun and sexy times.

My Torture
[cannot embed]

That just made the other half of my day go by!
Hope it does the same for yours.

Sailor Leg's Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Now most of you all know of my seething dislike for Kanye West.
But while I can be known as a hater, I'd still like to think I'm open minded.
I still got down with flying lotus's remix of love lockdown, and then I found out Esthero helped with the track I gave it some credit.
I just had a LARGE fight with that much autotune.

With the new album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy just released, I thought I'd give it a chance. I heard a couple leaked tracks and I liked what I heard. I did notice that his collaborator list was very long with the tracks that I did hear. So there's my buffer. I got Justin Vernon, Nicki Minaj, Jay Z, Rick Ross, Cudi. Artists I like. So I listened to it a couple times to get a feel for it and I'm here now, going through the tracks, one by one, giving you my completely unwarranted opinions on it.
Lucky for me, this is my blog, so I do what I want. :) So buckle up and get ready.
Here we go!

If you want to listen along, head here to stream the album, I believe it's still up, but can't check it. :\

Track 1: Dark Fantasy: Intro with Nicki Minaj doing a bad english accent. Then goes into a good chorus. Ye's rapping. He claims to have a 'nas flow'. I agree to disagree on that one. "Too many urkels on your team, that's why you're win-SLOW" alright. that one is a little comedic.

Track 2: Gorgeous [ft Kid Cudi and Reakwon]: Simple beat but Cudi's vocals fit it well. "Cause the same people that tried to black ball me, forgot about two things, my black balls." .................. Right. Make sense but unclever. Reakwon raps. Has great rhythm in his verse. Song is seemingly in opposition with the track title. Irony, it happens.

Track 3: Power [ft Dwele]: Starts off with claps, chants, sirens, and goes into a very good beat with guitar riffs. Reminds me of that Wu Tang vs the Beatles mash up. This is probably the most clear message from a song I've gotten. Message being, "homeboys got power, why you hatin?"

Track 4: All of The Lights [interlude]: very beautiful string melody with the piano

Track 5: All of The Lights: Oh. Riri's in the house. Horns make it sound pretty epic. [Rocky-esque]. He's really talking about All of the lights. Streets, cars, fireworks, .....all of the lights. Bases covered. Then life. Thug, rock, street. He's been around the block, presumably. Talks about not being able to see his child. Has to meet the baby mama at a Borders. Bummer.

Track 6: Monster [ft Justin Vernon, Nicki Minaj, Jay Z, Rick Ross]: Now they leaked this track. I loved it. The most blatant conceptual song. You are a monster!!! Thanks to the 3 other verses by other Mcs that help bring that point across. I love Nicki in it. Justin's voice, can drop my panties. Jay z and Rick Ross, I'm a fan. Ye, yous a little nasty though "Have you ever had sex with a pharoah,I put the pussy in a sarcophagus, Now she claiming I bruise her esophagus, Head of the class and she just want a swallowship" Nasty but FANTASTIC!!

Track 7: So Appalled [ft. Jay Z, Pusha T, Prynce Cy Hi, Swizz Beatz, The RZA]: The music is dark and mellow, which equals to haunting. I really do like it. Rhymes are good. Brought to you by everybody. I'm a little irritated with the constant pronunciation of "ridick-uh-lous" But that's just me.

Track 8: Devil In A New Dress [ft Rick Ross]: Soulful motown style back up vocals. Momma likes [duh]. This seems to be a song about a lady in 'Ye's life. "We love jesus but she done learn a lot from satan."

Track 9: Runaway: Into of the piano reminds me of The Shining. Jack Nicholson will kill me if I keep listening.
Ok, not really. Here' we go. Beat hits, some hollers about 'we gotcha'. Or is it "lookatcha"? Oh shit, 'ye is singing. And I don't want to claw my eardrums out. "Let's have a toast for the douchebags" Um, how about we don't. I don't like those fools. This is where he calls him self out with his downfalls. And how he's not that great with women. Taylor Swift would agree, boo! It would be endearing if he didn't want to toast to himself [aka assholes, jerk offs, douche bags]. The composition is beautiful though. I love tracks with string instruments. Cello lover FOR LIFE. Ending is extended enough to where I'm thinking about my lunch options. It's noon, man. I'm hungry. Oh wait, he's singing something completely inaudible in autotune. Yep, still not that interested.

Oh yeah, I saw a bit of the music video for Runaway, it was cool, except for the fact it took 30 full minutes off my life. Also with Kanye's really bad acting, and the whole story not really being fluid. But then again, that's how his tracks are. My fault.

Track 10: Hell of A Life: Filtered beats. Constant buzzing but it sounds sick. You had to talk about anal/gang bang, didn't you Kanye??? I was just getting into the song then BOOM!! But supposedly they'll live a hell of a life. Nice break down of someone saying "fuck with the lights on". "No more drugs for me, pussy and religion are all I need" 'Ye's last words.
I do like the ending break. "Honeymoon on the dance floor", damn straight!

Track 11: Blame Game [ft John Legend] First off, I LOOOOVE me some John Legend. "Let's play the blame game, I love you." is fitting for the track. Basically, I think this is his 'love' story with Amber Rose. This is probably the most human I've ever heard Kanye be on record. I appreciate it. But there was some cray cray drama.
I will say that the ending sample of that phone call......Chris Rock's voice is SOOOOOOOO annoying.
Although the cirque de soleil pussy shit line, is hilarious. "Yeezy reupholstered my pussy."
Now that I think about it, better Chris Rock than Chris Tucker.

Track 12: Lost In the World [ft Justin Vernon] Um duh, you know I'm down for this shit. Justin recreates Bon Iver's "Woods" track. Which is acapella autotune. I know I stated my hatred for autotuned, but Bon Iver was GENIUS!! No one was using it the way he was. Now there's percussion. Chorus is good too. Very primal sounding but still really dynamic.

Track 13: Who Will Survive in America: The beat from Lost in The World with a poem from Gil Scot Heron.
Us Living How We do, Upside Down,
And the new words of hell is revolution,
People don't even want to hear the preachers squeal or spill,
Because gods hoard has been thoroughly peaked
And America is now blood and tears instead of milk and honey,
The Youngsters who were programmed to continue fucking up,
Woke up one night digging Paul Revere and Nat Turner as the good guys
America stripped from bed and we have not all yet closed our eyes,

The signs of truth were tattooed across our often injured vagina,
We learned to our amazement the untold tale of scandal,
2 long centuries buried in a rusty vault hosed down daily with gagging perfume,
America was a bastard, the illegitimate daughter of the mother country whose legs were spread around the world and a rapist known as freedom,
Democracy liberty and justice were revolutionary code names that proceeded the bubbling
In the mother countries crotch,
What does Webster say about soul?
All I want is a good home and a wife and our children,
And some food to feed them every night.
After all is said and done,
Build a new route to china if they'll have you
Who will survive in America?

Enter some menial applause.

Then End.

To sum it up. Composition wise this album is fresh. 'Ye usually finds those beat makers that are turning that corner before everyone else. Homeboy has a great ear. But here's the real shit. I don't like him as a rapper. His voice annoys me when he elongates it to keep the beat. He mumbles through some verses just to have something there. He's arrogant as FUCK. And half of his tracks, his verses don't really make sense. Most of the verses are not conceptual to the actual song. Again with the filler. But in truth, how many people in the [pop]ulation give a shit on the substance of the album? Can they dance to it? Can they sing the chorus over and over again? Is it on that tv box?
Now onto me. Will I jam out to this album. Meh. But I won't make my friends change it when they are bumping it.....maybe. Like I said, composition is great. But really Pitchfork? a 10? You say a tomato, I say a FUCK YOU!

Love it or hate it. I believe it will make some sort of impact. I'm sure Entertainment Tonight will want an exclusive interview with Kanye for this album.
This is as exclusive as I get.

If that isn't enough for you, might I suggest his album reviewed by lolcats? Go here

Georgia Power

I ain't even playin either.

Cee Lo and Big Boi touring in 2011

Two parts of the Dungeon Family are joining forces and hitting the road. Cee Lo Green and Big Boi, each of whom released new solo albums this year, have announced that they'll be heading out on a joint Georgia Power tour in 2011, with no solid details released on when the tour will begin or what cities they'll be stopping through

Though the pair hasn't ever toured with one another, they both hail from Atlanta's collective The Dungeon Family -- a group of artists including production/songwriting outfit Organized Noize, Goodie Mob and OutKast. The last big collabo that Big Boi and Cee Lo recorded was for Trick Daddy's 2002 single 'In Da Wind,' which peaked at No. 16 on the Billboard Rap Singles chart.

Cee Lo just released his latest album 'The Lady Killer' last week, bowing at No. 9 with 41,000 copies sold. Though he's yet to promote the LP with a tour around the country, Cee Lo can get touring tips from Big Boi, who has already toured the nation extensively to support his heralded solo debut 'Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty.'
via Boombox

Jesus christ. I just got Cee Lo's The Ladykiller and it's on major non stop rotation. Not even kidding.
Bring us some TEXAS DATES, por favor!!!

Wings + Teeth

So I thought I had some rest and relaxation coming.
Someone lied to my ass!!!

Still going after a night of jameson/makers/beam. Thank goodness I ate dinner.
Last night DJ Digg, Parking, Astronautalis, and DOOMTREE brought the half roof down at Red7.
It was an amazing show and I'm so glad I went.

But in the aftermath, I really need to stop going to Astronautalis' shows.
I say that only because homeboy is going to make me fall in love with his stage persona.
No joke, it's 100% endearing and sincere. Yet manly, powerful, and so unique.

Closing with Trouble Hunters and having the entire crowd scream the very last line, Andy takes a step back and smiles upon the crowd. Most adorable thing ever.
Here's an artist that has some of the most loyal fans and he acknowledges that and treats them like friends, instead of just fans. Example, I'm a total fan girl and he was nice enough to except my compliments with humility and we even exchanged a few words about the cat circus, red wood bar in seattle, and tattoos.

Some of the most humble and appreciative musicians that I have met have been MCs and rappers. So great.

You can check out this night's freestyle here courtesy of Happy.

Then Doomtree. Oh man. I just have to say that Dessa stands her ground, man. In a sea of men, she just does it for me. I have a totally soft spot for her based on her spoken word past, but damn, girls good!!
Sims, Mike, Cecil, P.O.S., Paper Tiger, Lazerbeak....this is the kind of group that looks like the family you want to be a part of.
Sharing that spotlight and backing each other up. It's really a beautiful thing what they have.
Performance wise. Spot on. Such an eclectic hip hop show.

Totally worth the amount of money I spent on the ticket and drinks, loss of sleep, and the unproductive day.

I was going somewhere with this, I think.

Oh yeah. It's not ending. Oh austin, it's never ending!!!!

Tonight come down east and help celebrate one of the first hipster bars on the east side!!
Your home away from home is turning 2 and this will have drinks, food, music, and prizes.

We will have free limited edition t-shirts to the first 100 people thru the door.

Free kegs of beer will be served at 8,9,10,11, and 12. We’ll space ‘em out so everybody gets a taste..

Free BBQ courtesy of Tom Spaulding: Three little piggies that were once very cute now become very delicious! Well find some carrots or something for non pig eaters…

We’re skipping the DJ and giving you the real thing- the best damn Queen cover band in the world, MAGNIFICO! Oh, and Stabba will open, they kinda cover Abba…

We’ll be accepting donations to benefit Austin Pets Alive. They need blankets, dog food, toys, etc… but cash always helps too! They are a great organization that keeps our furry friends from getting ‘put to sleep’ in local shelters.

I'm downing a 5hr energy or 4loko, whichever gets in my hand first, and heading that way!!!

See you there!

The Light That Won't Ever Go Out

via Espada's chest

Last week Minneapolis payed tribute to a forever immortal soul. Michael "Eyedea" Larsen.

I just wanted to spot out some links to the tributes that showed the world what an important person, friend, son, artist, hero Mikey was to so many people.

via Rhymesayers
Head to the link for video from the Tribute at First Ave

The energy was brought way up again with a set by Eyedea & Abilities tourmates Themselves, whose high-octane, frenetic verses were reminiscent of Larsen's own work. MC Doseone also offered up one of the most poetic metaphors about Larsen of the evening, comparing Mikey to a giant flame "that a candle can't handle."
By Andrea Swensson who did an amazing write up of the night's event via City Pages

and last, RSE Radio Tribute show

That Night | I was a Trouble Hunter

After Fun Fun Fun Fest ended, my body was in serious need for some rest and relaxation, but the greatness of this town just would not allow it.

One of my favorite MC's hit up Mohawk and had all the boys and girls there yearning for more.

Astronautlis | Mohawk | Austin, TX | 11.11.10

Austin's Beta Player opened up for him.

Then the goodness happened.

Yes, he's a handsome man, but more than that, he's the dope shit. aka so so talented.

and if you've been to one of his shows, you know about his freestyle section.
He takes topics from the crowd and freestyles right there. He's amazing at it.

The crowd gave him the following topics.
*Trig Palin
*UFOs and Republicans
*You threw your roses at my face
*Under developed manatees
*And some galaxy 130 or some shit.

et voila

If you missed this show, you are one lucky motherfucker because he'll be back tomorrow.

WOAH! THATS RIGHT!! He's opening up for Doomtree [including Dessa and P.O.S.] at red7 tomorrow!!!
Along with Austin's Parking and that lovable DJ Digg. DO NOT MISS THIS ONE. Or you will face the wrath of my whiskey filled hangover. [not pretty, btw]

Also, I promise not to crowd surf in the hip hop crowd again. *

*please note this is a sober promise that can easily be broken with 2+ whiskey shots. Not. My. Fault.
