Laudy Daudy, We Like To Party

I'm doing this post for a local event that takes place while I'm still in Minneapolis because you should all go!!!

It's Jen Peen's fucking BIRTHDAY!!!! And if I could transport to Austin for one night, this would be the night I'd do it!!!
So go and wish this gorgeous girl a VERY happy birthday and get her druuuuunk!! :)

Ugh, I love these two.

Sunday night [yes bitch, ACT like you gotta work on Monday aka Memorial Day!] head over to Austin's FAVORITE video dance club, Barbarella, from 10-2am and get your shit twerkin to some booty booty booty booty rocking e'rywhere. Hit up the reg cheap ass drinks or try your hand at the night's specialty drink, Jen and Juice [laid back].

Now you know, with the hottest of the hottest showing up for this, 4 hours worth of partying just is not going to cut it.
So move yo ass on over to that after hours hot spot, End Bar/Biker Gallery aka Music Gym, throw 5 bucks to the door guy and get down to Orion, Pagame, and King Louie on the decks, taking you into the world of cumbias, dance hall, and tropical sound all the while, taking in all the free booze [beer and that straight jungle juice]!!

This is THE ONLY way to celebrate this holiday weekend, so you better not miss this.
I need stories people!! GOOD JUICY STORIES on what kind of shit went down.

You can report back to me on Tuesday. Sans hangover.

I'll see you bitches soon.

hey ma

My birthday was one of the best I've had. Thank you everyone again for the well wishes and to those who got down at Nasty's...I LERVE YOU!!!

I was definitely Depp via Crybaby scene where he got his motorcycle <3
I spent yesterday taking it easy and running menial errands and then finally began to pack.

Music time.

Twin Sister covers Daft Punk's There's Something About Us

Twin Sister - "Something About Us (Daft Punk)" from Ian Perlman on Vimeo.

I like the cover they did, but after downloading their daytrotter session, something just didn't sit right. It's not like I'm calling in crap, I'm not. There's something that's under the surface and great about it, that I can't put my finger on.
Then again the vocals sometimes irritate me.
They come off as very The XX-ish. heavy-breathed, husky type vocals. Which irritates me as well. BUT at least the xx vocals match the compositions/melodies.
I'm also very picky about lead vocals. There are some great vocalists doing stuff that doesn't fit their sound/octave/etc.

You can download their Daytrotter session here.
As well as their EPs off their side bar here.

I think I need to download the EPs to make sure it's not just the daytrotter session throwing me off. Because I was genuinely excited to hear their stuff after seeing the cover.

Other downloads for you!
Neiliyo's new mixtape that will surely get you ready for sailing season!!

download here

Meat and Bread's latest mixtape

Meatandbread - It's Getting Warm Out by MeatAndBread

The Doobie Brothers - Takin it to the Streets
Diplo vs Sunday Girl<------I LOOOOOVE this track, btw.
Kenny Loggins - Danger Zone
Katsen - Constellation
Queen - Princes of the Universe
Knife - Heartbeats
Shirley Ellis - The Clapping Song
Camron - Hey Ma feat. Julez Santana
ELO - Mr Blue Sky
Mayer Hawthorne - Just Aint Gonna Work Out
Jackie Wilson - Higher and Higher
Blackstreet & Mya - Take Me There feat. Mase
Eric B and Rakim - Whats Going On
George McCrae - I Get Lifted
Commodores - The Assembly Line

The only reason I'm posting this mix is because of that Diplo vs Sunday girl track. You all NEED to go here to get that four floors track because that track is seriously the fucking DOPE shit.

I also am having a hard time dealing with mixes/mixtape/stuff. But i'll rant on that another day.

As for Events. My ass is skipping town tomorrow, BUT not before I get inside the Mind Of Adi!!

Then I will head to Side Bar for Bernie's Beer League end of season par-lay.

I should be able to post this week, as I have no set plans for most of the week I'll be in Minneapolis. So we will still have each other.

But still, have a fantastic memorial day weekend, stay dry then get wet. ;)

Birfday Barfday

I am a very very lucky woman.
Not only just with the many birthday wishes from txts/phone calls [yeah, some people still do this!]/ tweets/ facebook walls/ but with being serenaded by 3 different people [thanks mom, dad, and malu].

I love you all so damn much.
AND, one of my most favorite duo in this city, The Peen Scene threw up a nice little flyer for tonights fiesta.

Ugh, I love you guys. Fer serious.

I would also like to give a shout out to uLovei aka Miguel Angel who shares the same birthday.

This dapper gent is always well dressed and can make anyone look fabulous on any given night, even mid fight
Happy birthday to you as well. <3

Tonight, as you can see, it's time to blow the roof off of Nasty's.
[side note: there is cover on the reg, $3 for the ladies/$5 for the gents]
Consider that the beer you were going to buy me ;)

Ok, onto other stuff.
I think I love King Kahn even more now [warning, NSFW]

via Vice
Yeah, that's lohans face trying to shy away from that piece of ass!!

There's actually another cameo of his ass at the site. Proceed with warning.

Now for the valid music post:
The ONE act at ACL this year that I really want to see, and haven't yet.
I'm giving EVERYONE a free pass if you aren't aware of this group yet.
Relayted was released May 11th 2010 on Jagjaguwar's label, the names involved in this project speak for itself. [Justin Vernon from the likes of Bon Iver, P.O.S., Dessa from Doomtree, and members from Solid Gold, Megafaun, the Rosebuds, and Lookbook.]

When Ryan Olson decided to make a record with Solid Gold members Zack Coulter and Adam Hurlburt, it was clear to them what the result would be: a collection of drugged-up keyboards and slick bedroom production almost exclusively inspired by 10cc's "I'm Not In Love." To be fair, they weren't entirely off. What they didn't know was that it would spiral into a project of epic proportions, enlisting the talents of over 25 musicians from various scenes around the country, relocating the base of operations from Olson's Minneapolis bedroom/studio to the Wisconsin-based studio April Base, and the genesis of a musical family, GAYNGS.

From the moment anyone heard Olson, Coulter, and Hurlburt's rough version of their first composition "The Gaudy Side of Town," they wanted in on it. To most of the players involved, this genre of music was quite foreign yet entirely familiar. Olson knew this, and began calling upon an eclectic cast of contributors whom he thought would share his vision, and relish in the idea of exploring uncharted musical territory within them. The first people to join the cause were North Carolina's Megafaun (Joe Westerlund, Brad Cook, Phil Cook), and with them came Ivan Howard (The Rosebuds), and Bon Iver's Justin Vernon and Mike Noyce. By mid-2009 the studio sessions were becoming more and more frequent, bouncing back and forth between April Base and Olson's bedroom. In Minneapolis, Olson brought in Rhymesayers rapper P.O.S and his fellow Doomtree artist Dessa, psych-rockers Jake Luck and Nick Ryan (Leisure Birds), song-birds Channy Moon-Casselle and Katy Morley, jazz-saxophonist Michael Lewis (Happy Apple, Andrew Bird), retro-pop duo Maggie Morrison and Grant Cutler (Lookbook), and slide-guitarist Shön Troth (Solid Gold).

Vocally, GAYNGS is a triumph. Zack Coulter (Solid Gold) shines from the jump, floating over the record with his airy, haunting melodies. Fans of Bon Iver will recognize Vernon's familiar falsetto, but will flip when they hear his Bone Thug's-style R&B. Ivan Howard sounds right at home with his sensual and breathy leads, while P.O.S. abandons his genre entirely for a soul inspired tenor. With over a dozen people contributing vocals, its incredible how cohesive the album sounds.

After a year of tracking and mixing, GAYNGS is officially ready to release the album, entitled "Relayted." The initial goal was achieved perfectly, yet "Relayted" sounds refreshing and modern. With each song written at 69 BPM's, and tripped-out transitions from song to song, it is truly an audio experience from start to finish.
Check out a couple videos.
Gayngs- Cry

Gayngs- The Gaudy Side Of Town

They recently played at the famed First Ave in Minneapolis, and Prince was there, guitar in tow, but chose to just watch. IF PRINCE IS A FAN, I'D CONSIDER THEM THE NEW BABY JESUS!

I'm really looking forward to them coming to Austin in hopes of an aftershow/party *cough*KR*cough*

Happy Monday to you all.
champagne and caviar dreams, bitches.
Let's see if I can make it out alive tonight. ;)

And again, thank you to everyone for the love.

Sailor Picks

Hump that Stump

This is how I'm trying to push my week to go by.

Seriously, how is it only Wednesday?

Not only does my old ass turn another year older, but I'm heading up north [still midwest] to Minneapolis.
I actually had a dream of it last night. I was ice skating. I blame the fact that it snowed up there a couple weeks ago. doubleu tee eff?
Actually, I'll take ANYTHING other than the godforsaken humidity this town has going on right about now.

Now onto Woah Wednesday.
I get music/tracks from many a digital outlets and I spent Monday night updating my ipod with new music.
Yesterday, I was rushing home to make it to a pal's birthday HH. A friend called me as I was pulling up, to confirm of my appearance there, and asked what I was listening to.
My reply, "I have no idea."
So I looked at the good ole ipod, and  it said The Blue Hit- All The Children.
No recollection of what medium I got this track from, but as I listened, I was beyond intrigued.
After leaving said happy hour, I listened to this song on repeat all the way home. [Which ended up to be only a couple times. Yay for living close to the bars!]
As I entered my front door, I run to my laptop to search about this band.
Thank goodness for YouTube.

The Blue Hit
A three piece band from Austin/San Marcos area consisting of;
Grace Rowland- angelic vocals
John McGee- guitar
David Moss- CELLO

Coming together around 2007 this threesome's sound is hauntingly beautiful.
I would call this genre Goth Folk. Mainly because it's very reminiscent of the vaudeville era where things were so bold, entertaining, beautiful and vintage beyond the world we know it aka the history of tragic romance.
See/Hear for yourself.

The Blue Hit- All The Children

The Blue Hit- If I Could

Their first LP Move In was released in May of 2009 and now I have a perfect line up I need to see.
The Blue Hit [austin]
Listen!Listen! [houston]
Dead Mans Bones [LA]

I have a very strong affliction for any musical group that involves the cello.
That and the accordion, really.
And in all seriousness, this is why I'm so enamored by music.
Because it has this effect on me to where it becomes so consuming and invigorating at the same time.

So THANK YOU the blue hit.
You just made my week THAT much better.

RIP Ronnie James Dio

Happy Birthday Bob Saget!!

Third, a postcard from Arcade Fire

via the tripwire

Um, hi, excitement. Welcome!!

And now for MySongMonday
My Song Monday comes from Grouper
Grouper is the solo project for electro-acoustic ambient/noise musician Liz Harris, of Portland, Oregon. Harris' music is a mixture of softly-strummed guitar, Wurlitzer keys, and her delicate, dreamy vocals, all of which are heavily drenched in reverb.

via Wiki

My sister actually turned me onto her. And she has great taste in music.

Grouper - Heavy Water / I'd Rather Be Sleeping (directed by Aske Emil) from Aske Emil on Vimeo.

You can actually catch her in Marfa, TX Memorial Day weekend
[May 30th at the Crowley Theatre]
What's better than a weekend in with the Marfa lights and Grouper???

Happy Monday, loves.

The sailor jerry drinks went quickly then my ass made it over to Barbarella to get down and dirty with my friends. <3

I'm laying out tonight, on le couch, but you kids have fun tonight. This weekend.
I'll probably see a bunch of you out as well.

Yay for Fryyyyday!

I leave you with this video because I love it so much, it hurts. Mind the ad.

Saturday some siick individuals are hitting up the backyard

May 15, 2010

The Backyard, Bee Caves Tx

2:00 pm – Midnight

Doors open at 3:00 pm. Come early and enjoy our art and food vendors! The show will be worth seeing from beginning to end!

Welcome to a movement to create a green, interactive festival with a steam punk theme. Our intention is to invoke the patrons’ creativity and participation in a Jules Vern meets Mad Max musical circus extravaganza. Imagine a world of steam power and clever invention; of jugglers and clowns and trapeze; of bands and DJs and dancing. There will be a circus-style midway laced with performers that  will lead to the main stage where the musicians and DJs will entice your body to dance till you drop…or laugh till your face hurts! So don your top hats or bowlers, dust off your goggles and set your pocket watches because on May 15th we travel to a realm of mind-blowing, nostalgic fantasy that you’ll never forget.

Don’t forget to wear your best steam punk

or circus costume!!*

* Props are ok as long as you can prove they aren’t a weapon or dangerous to other patrons.

Hit this widget up for some free music from Green Steam Bands & DJs

And hit up the site to find out what they are doing to be more green.

Sailor Jerry will also be out again from 12-1 at Jackalope.
Come get you some!

Then Sunday- the magical night I've been waiting for.
Yes, Caribou and toro Y Moi will be at Emos, and I would  be there, IF this band wasn't at LaZona

She moves so well

This song is probably my favorite out of their entire discography.
There's just something about it that pours vulnerability into my ears and desires something so substantial and meaningful.
It always makes me crave red wine #lush

They just released their latest album, Omni this passed month, and I have yet to get it. #quehorrible
BUT I WILL!! Promise.

I'm just really excited to see these guys live again.
The sounds and live act is so intricate, it's admirable, and to my standards [which are pretty high].

Either way, Sunday is a FANTASTIC night for music.
Hope your there to take part in it. :)
