A little shocked
Ok, so I finally broke down and listened to Paramore's album that came out a bajilliion years ago.
As much as I loathe that poppy punk sound, I can appreciate the lead girl's vocals.
Anyhoo, I was listening to Born something or another and I heard this bridge "we want our airwaves back"
mira!
bridge at 0:50
And it hit me, it was so familiar. Where do I know that line.
Well...ahem
This is where.
Fucking Refused.
Wow
In other news, new Austin locals, Homer Hiccolm & the Rocketboys will be playing Stubbs inside.
Haven't gotten a chance to check them out live, but I'm liking their EP.
They will be playing with The Solider Thread and Wiretree.
All acts I want to catch.
So I will probably be there!
Ok, that is all

My transitional year.
My "I'm almost there" year.
Good riddance!!
So, NYE plans. I know, late notice, but it's not like you haven't heard of anything yet.
Austin:
Check out Austinist's awesome NYE flyer slide show
I will be at Tito's sponsored party
Huzzzzah 2009!
I thought about going to Gristy in Houston for some dubstep action
But alas, waiting till the last minute was not the way to go about making those plans.
So Austin it is.
BUT, if you are in Houston, check this out.

My very dear friend, Mattsizzle, will also be playing the Speakerboxx room.
It will be bumping.
If you aren't wanting to make the drive, and still want dubstep
Heavyweight is the way to go.

Also, Barcelona is having an OPEN BAR party.
Of course, tickets need to be bought, but momma loves her an open bar.
Also, safety first!!
Austin Sober Ride is offering FREE cab rides home
(fares up to $30), so please take advantage of their awesomeness.
Dispatch hotline is 512-657–2999. More info at AustinSoberRide.com
Please take advantage of that. APD is enforcing the no refusals tonight too.
This weekend. Not sure what is going on, just yet.
But Saturday, I'm planning to head to Houston for DIRB at Block 21 to send Mattsizzle back to Seattle.
Block 21 is at 2420 Washington, The H
Oh yes!
Free week starts Friday.
Holy crap!!
Not only at Emos, but Transmission has shows along Red River as well.

And check out Emo's schedule for their free shows.
Ok, that should be good for at least another week, right?
:]

Review: Emo's 12.12.08
Here is the real review I did for the Emo's show with The Naked Empire, The Deaf Ears, and The Boxing Lesson.
Living in Austin, live music is pretty prominent. Local bands are plentiful and venues always packed. But it seems as of lately, the sparkle is dying. That inspiring act that I would come across often has slowed down to rare occurances. So I’m on a mission tonight. A mission to have my flame lit and my faith in music reinstated.
I walk in from the Texas cold, and I say that because it’s really not that cold, but I am a Texan, so yes, 50 degrees is cold. I get greeted by the warmth of Emo’s inside and quickly realized I missed the first act of the night, Tina Rodriguez, but I then became witness to a nice stage production, and for a split second, thought I heard Matt Bellamy belting out above the crowd. Then came to realize it was Dustin Maxey, from The Naked Empire. This five-piece group that had the biggest light set up I’ve ever seen on the small inside Emo’s stage, and was pushing the sound limitations with their rhythm driven full on accompaniment. The drums, rhythm guitar, and bass were sautéed quite nicely between the keys and Dustin’s full force vocals. While I wished for a bit more texture, the set was loud, powerful, and a good display of the type of music our local scene should go for. It was full sounding and completely admirable to see local musicians pushing themselves for this level of epic sounds.
After a nice lonestar to warm myself up, Austin’s The Deaf Ears took the stage. Not going to lie, the first thing I noticed was the drummer’s technique. He was playing through his wrists, where it was beautifully fluid and seemed so effortless. Between the keyboard, harmonica, and the effect mic, Joel Mullins led the avid listener on a journey between hearts. At times feeling the jazzy pain that was put out there, so vulnerable and always appreciated. With the entire 4-piece band being ex- Tammy Hall Machine members, you are quick to realize they bring back the sincerity in rock music that I’ve missed.
As they finished their set, the crowd was waiting in anticipation for the next act, and to be honest, I was right there with them. I’ve heard numerous good things about our local psychrock group, The Boxing Lesson. This 3 piece can make more noise that any band out there. And when I say noise, I mean this sound that intrigues my ears and draws me to listen intently because if I miss one note, one beat, one sound, the world could very well implode. With Kevin driving the rhythm, and Jaylinn’s live synths and samples I believed that I had died and my soul was in the outer limits of space. Then Paul’s vocals, which could pass for a mash up of Robert Plant and Geddy Lee, and guitar playing brought the texture I was craving for all night. It was kind of ridiculous, how much of a daze I was in while witnessing Paul climb into his own world and portray what I love to see in musicians. The inspiring and completely absorbing aspects of becoming every note that is played, that appear in the body movements, seemingly sporadic but tied in with the music. Plus, the cover of Jefferson Airplane’s White Rabbit, which is a personal favorite, just took me to a time in music I’ve always wanted to experience. So a big thank you goes out to The Boxing Lesson for bring inspiration back to music and portraying it in great style.
All in all, Emo’s was definitely a good choice for my Friday night and I anticipate the next batch of inspiration to flow through to their next crowds.

And I'll set the world on fire
'Cause I could not satisfy her."
I saw this a couple years ago and it blew me away.
Goosebumps galore.
Then I realized he was an American Idol but didn't last too long.
More people were concerned that he lived in his car rather than this amazing talent.
On my way home from work, 107.1 played his new single off his EP that's coming out soon.
And it took about 20 seconds to realize how his voice sounded so familiar.
So I give you this.
And you know it's a big deal because I'm posting from home, which is something I never do.
Josiah Leming, ladies and gents. Maybe not be everyone's forte, but you can't deny how inspiring his talent is.

why for are you so cold????
Freaking Texas. You have betrayed me.
With your ice cold winds and that fact that I almost wrecked this morning heading to work.
Stupid ice patches.
Thankfully there was already another wreck ahead so I wasn't going fast to begin with.
And the fact that I can drive on ice. I just really hate it.
I'm still hoping for some ice days here soon. Maybe the days before the new year??
Although they usually occur in February.
So, good news of the day.
I just purchased all 3 seasons of Arrested Development for $28.
Not even kidding. Amazon dot com!!
The past weekend was kind of nuts.
Friday, I hit up Emos for The Boxing Lesson, and was completely blown away. This psych-rock local is now one of my favorites, if only for the cover of White Rabbit!
But I haven't heard so much noise from this 3-piece since I saw Muse live.
Speaking of Muse. Another band played that had their 5-pieces going for that epic sound of muse. The Naked Empire. Another local band. Not bad. Then The Deaf Ear opened for The Boxing Lesson, and they sounded alike Cold War Kids. I know bands hate comparisons, but it helps the reader go for whatever sound they want. It helps.
Saturday was the Matt and Kim show at Mohawks. Open bar meant bad news for this girl.
Caught Matt and Kim then went home earlier than I wanted to, but it was needed.
My drunk ass didn't need to be in public.
Sunday, paid for my ridiculous saturday night hi jinx all day.
I need this week to go by, like now.
Oh, but I have a softball game tomorrow, then after that I'm heading to Side Bar's xmas party!!
Food, booze, and DJ supafly on the decks.
I love all of those people. My favorite bar by far with my favorite owner/staff.
Lots of love to Soo and Trey, along with KC, Meghan, Becca, Corey, Bonner, Jason, Ry, Mark, and anyone else I may have missed!! <3
Anyway, that shit starts at 10, so come enjoy it with us.
Not sure what is going on this weekend, not really interested in being downtown though.
Although I'm tempted to go to this on Thursday @ DeVille

Orion, Markus, and Zeale.
If you were at Mint for Hollywood Holt, you would have caught the meeting of Markus and Zeale, when Markus was his DJ for the first time. I guess sparks flew and went into Orion's sparkled eyes as well.
This should be some good shit, because not only are there 2 awesome DJ's but Zeale's skills on the mic is kind of the dope shit.
So check it out.
Ok, it's food time for my tummy. Momma is out!

you miss my posts?
Email my boss at ______@_____dot com
Totally kidding, but yes, work [aka the job that pays my bills] is really busy and I usually only post when I'm here. :]
Productivity is the key!
But I'm feeling a little fresh so I'm sneaking on here to give you lots of love and attention, sailorlegs blog.
The week has been tame, and thanks to me being a gemini, really fucking stressful.
But, luckily, it should all die down on Tuesday. I swear my tongue was ready to cut people in half. So sharp, I had to become a recluse to save lives, and all the -ships you can think of.
[i.e. friend/relation/etc]
But lucky for me, Undiscovered Austin hooked me up with tickets to see the 101xmas sold out show last night at Emos.
Good bands played inside and out.
I'm bummed because I missed Eagles of Death Metal and I heard they tore shit up, with their rock faces and riffs.
Missed the first 3 acts, including the biggest local fav, The Black and White Years, which I'm sure they did not fail to entertain the early crowd. Also heard raves for the California natives, Airborne Toxic Event.
BUT, I did get to catch Black Kid's first Texas appearance. And while I must admit I'm over the typical dance kid music, live shows can be quite different then a studio experience.
The leading brother and sister played nicely off each other going through their short discography. Adoring the shoulder shake of the sis, while the brother's fro reminded me of how hot it could be. People freezing at the outside stages of Emos only to be warmed up by the shoulder to shoulder crowd and dance moves you do with your feet stuck to the ground. They had their fans who never failed to let a line slip without their voices back up the band. But something was weird with me. Don't hate me, but I can't pin point it. It could very well be the sound. It was full, something was lower than it should've been. I'm no sound tech but my hears are pretty professional. But it was good to see them live finally. One thing I've learned through my music venture years, never judge before you see any artist live. The End.
Finally getting the lonestar to warm me up, and doing a quick bathroom break, Emo's please get better bathrooms, kthx. Love you!!
The Ting Tings hit the stage. Jules, the drummer, behind the kit with a guitar in his hand. Starting off with bass drums hits as he loops the guitars melody. The Katie comes out in her best Debbie Harry and starts the show. Now I am a fan of the ting tings, although their album I do not own, but was reminded I needed last night. But I liked their single, you know, "I ain't freakin, I ain't fakin it....shut up and let me go!" Yeah, that one. And I've read nothing but good things regarding them in the blogosphere world. So I had missed their last austin performance and was excited to see them. Needless to say, expectations were high. But they were also totally met. The tempo of the set just went higher and higher, rougher and rougher. Totally dirty, dingy, 2manband rock. And now I have a girl crush on katie. Who wouldn't love a female with that much command over the crowd. She owned the stage and The Ting Tings owned the show, for me, last night.
Sadly, I wasn't able to stay for their entire set. Again, email my boss. /joke
But it was worth the cold. I did actually try running back to my car but my feet were so cold that it hurt to run. Oh Texas. Silly silly state weather.
This was probably the best line up I've seen from 101xmas shows in the past years.
So, kudos to them for bringing the crowd and raising some money for Habitat for Humanity.
Tonight, you will find my dancing feet at Emos again.
The Boxing Lesson is playing their LAST AUSTIN GIG, of the year. Haha. Caps for the dramatic effect!! But they are being supported on stage by The Deaf Ears, Naked Empire, and Tine Rodriguez on the inside stage...yay warmth!!
Go to Do512 for discounted entry and be there. Tonight!
All ages! Doors at 9.
Brought to you, so graciously, by The Loyalty Firm and Do512.
Then, Saturday. This weekend is straight dope shit.
Saturday at The Mohawk, Undiscovered Austin is putting on it's last show.
And those crazy fabulous people have lined up some amazing bands.
_____ [whomever won their undiscovered band contest], Austin's very own The Lemurs, and MATT AND KIM!!!
I type in caps due to the urgent fact that you need to be there!
Word is that their last event, Mohawk has never seen that large of a crowd.
Seriously. I say shit is going down all the time, but holy pajamas, it is going down!!
This so adorable Brooklyn couple will be bringing the shit down from the trees. Also if you can, stick around for what could be the most awesome after party EVER. And if you are some of the lucky few, enjoy the free cocktails and food upstairs.
Regardless if you will be down in front of that stage or upstairs enjoying from afar, your ass will be moving, and it will be a grand ole time!! Girl Scouts honor!!*
*disclaimer, ok, so I was never in girl scouts but I went to a meeting once, I know what goes down. *
Oh yeah. Take a look at this beautiful thing.

I think I love you, Learning Secrets
And a VERY happy 5th birthday for you.
Seriously?!?!?
Hercules and Love Affair?!?!?!
Oooooo Oooooo
I'm having a party inside myself right now.
So book your shit now. January 31st. Beauty Bar. Orgasmic Events!!

New look
I know this is like the 3rd time I've changed templates.
But really, sailor legs, green??
Not so much.
So blue. We stay with blue.
Last night's undiscovered scavenger hunt led us around downtown to: tap room, fados, whole foods, and ended up at continental club for the black joe lewis show.
Plus an open bar and rounders pizza .
Being an ex employee of Rounders, I miss eating there 3 times a week.
It was delicious.
if you've never had it, try it. The produce is ridiculously fresh and the sausage and meatballs are the best I've EVER had. Srsly. No joke. Its the dope shit.
Oh yeah, for next week, I'm sure I'll do a reminder post but to book your calenders now

RSVP at Do512.com for $7 entry! ($10 at the door).
4 lucky winners will win a pair of FREE tickets!

Be sure to catch The Boxing Lesson and their first local performance since the Final Backyard Weekend and their last local performance for 2008 year. Playing tracks off this years critically acclaimed debut LP Wild Streaks & Windy Days and fresh back from their third national tour, the band will be debuting new tracks that will appear on a release next year.

I was in a food coma
I swear that is the reason for my absence.
Ok, I don't swear because that's a lie.
But in truth, the wind gets colder, the bands stop touring, and the holiday season hits with a lot of nothingness.
And lots of cleaning out closets.
This is what I have been doing.
After finishing my xmas shopping by the Saturday after Thanksgiving, I've been keeping warm and working on redo-ing my room.
Still working on the new furniture, but definitely got rid of a lot of clutter.
Now it's time to paint and rearrange.
There's been shows, but I haven't been motivated enough to go.
Maybe it's because Cursive is about to tour and I don't see a Texas date.
Same with Fleetwood MAC!!! Oh shit. I might just have to fly to catch a show if they don't extend the dates any further.
But I caught a couple videos that made my day.
Christina Aguilera sings "I Love You Porgy" @ Grammy Concert
And the cutest one!!
Kermit singing "New York, I love you, but you're bringing me down" by LCD Soundsystem
Awesome.
Um, you might want to catch this, though, on Saturday.
Undiscovered Austin - Go Gear Silent Dance Party with
Hollywood Holt, Markus with a K, and Zeale.
This shit will pop off. Baledat!!
RSVP here.
Lots of other stuff, local stuff going on.
Tonight, is First Thursdays on South Congress.
Brave the cold to support our local vendors.
Southside Sanctuary will be out tonight.
Hit them up and get in on some specials on the shirts.
Had a softball game last night.
Won 19-16!! And I got my first triple!!
*flexes*
Go Side BarBARIANS!!!! <3
Now it's pho time.
xo
Oh yeah, for the BEST pho and eggrolls in town.
Go here.
No LIE.
Oh my goodness, I think I'm obsessed with hyperlinking!!!
Out of CTRL!
